If your Morro virtual CacheDrive's root or data volume is running out of space but your VM host's datastore is full, you can move the root or data volume to another datastore, then expand it.
The steps are:
- 1. Update the virtual CacheDrive to the latest firmware.
- 2. Shutdown the virtual CacheDrive from MCM.
- 3. Move the virtual disks.
- 4. Start the VM and verify that it runs normally using the moved virtual disks.
- 5. Shutdown the virtual CacheDrive from MCM.
- 6. Resize the virtual disk.
- 7. Power up the VM and verify that the disk size has increased.
1. Update the virtual CacheDrive to the latest firmware.
For more information about updating the virtual CacheDrive's firmware, see How do I update the device firmware?
2. Shutdown the virtual CacheDrive from MCM.
For more information about shutting down the virtual CacheDrive, see the Shutdown section of Manage Device - Maintenance
3. Move the virtual disks.
- Go to Hyper-V Manager.
- Right-click on your virtual CacheDrive and select Move.
- Select the desired Move option.
For more information about the available Move options, see the Move Options section below. - Click Next. The Move operation might take a long time depending on the size of the virtual disks and the speed of the storage hardware.
4. Start the VM and verify that it runs normally using the moved virtual disks.
5. Shutdown the virtual CacheDrive from MCM.
6. Resize the virtual disk.
For more information about resizing virtual disks, see this article at learn.microsoft.com.
7. Power up the VM and verify that the disk size has increased.
The volume will automatically expand to the new disk size. Check the new volume size in MCM.
Move Options
The following Move options are available:
- Move all of the virtual machine's data to a single location
- Move the virtual machine's data to different locations
- Move only the virtual machine's virtual hard disks
Move all of the virtual machine's data to a single location
This option moves all of the virtual machine's files (including virtual hard disks, checkpoints, configuration files, etc.) to a single location. The following shows the move destination's file structure after the move operation:
Move the virtual machine's data to different locations
This option allows you to move the virtual machine's files to different user-specified locations.
Move only the virtual machine's virtual hard disks
This option allows you to move only the virtual machine's hard drives to different user-specified locations.
