One common technique used by Administrators to help with disaster recovery is to backup the VM image for important servers.  The VM image can later be restored or moved to another VM host to deal with unexpected issues.

Backup images do not, however, work with CacheDrive VM images because a restored backup image will be out of sync with the cloud and other CacheDrives in the system.  This also applies to rolling back to previous checkpoints.  Therefore, we do not recommend using these methods for backup.

For higher availability, we recommend using a secondary CacheDrive as a hot spare.  This will involve additional costs, but ensures that the spare is always in sync and can be used immediately.
