The Morro Sync Engine makes files available across the network using the Global File System. Files are visible to any users that have access permission, but the remote CacheDrive does not download a file until a user requests it from that CacheDrive. In some cases, it may be advantageous for a CacheDrive to download these files before the first access. To do this, you can enable prefetch on a per-share per-device basis.
Note: Enabling prefetch will only affect new and modified files. To fetch files that are not new or modified, please see this article on manual fetching:
How do I manually force the CacheDrive to download specific files into the cache?
Pool-level Prefetch
Prefetch is managed at the pool level and enabled at the gateway and share level. Once prefetch is enabled for a pool, individual share/device combinations must be enabled for prefetch to have any effect.
To enable prefetch at the pool level:
- Go to MCM, click File System, then select the Pool.
- Slide the Enable Prefetch slider to the right.
- Click Save or Apply.
Note: Using prefetch may affect your costs since all new data will be downloaded to a gateway with prefetch enabled. Downloads that exceed the included download limit are charged a prorated amount.
For more information on managing prefetch for the pool, see the article File System - Manage Pools and Shares
Share-level Prefetch
Prefetch for a share cannot be enabled unless prefetch is enabled for the pool containing the share. To enable prefetch for a share:
- Go to MCM, then click File System and select a share.
- Click Permissions, then Gateway. For each gateway that should prefetch this share, enable the Prefetch checkbox.
- Click Save or Apply.
For more information on managing prefetch for the share, see the article File System - Manage Pools and Shares
Device-level Prefetch
Prefetch for a share cannot be enabled unless prefetch is enabled for the pool containing the share. To enable prefetch for a share at the device level:
- Go to MCM, then click Devices and select your device.
- Click Permissions, then enable the Prefetch checkbox for the shares.
- Click Save or Apply.
