When devices are unable to join the domain, use the Show Error button to get an error message:



Here are some common error messages and what to do when encountering them:


Realm not found, please check DNS.

  • Make sure that the entry in the DNS Realm field is resolvable.
  • If the Gateway device (CacheDrive) is an ADS Proxy device in a relay/proxy pair, check that the ADS Relay device on the same subnet as the Domain Controller is online and able to connect to the ADS Proxy.



Failed to join domain: failed to find DC for domain

  • Verify that the device and DC can communicate with each other over the network.
  • If the Gateway device (CacheDrive) is an ADS Proxy device in a relay/proxy pair, check that the ADS Relay device on the same subnet as the Domain Controller is online and able to connect to the ADS Proxy.
