DFS root shares can be used to consolidate different network shares under one single namespace. It should not be confused with the Microsoft Windows Server DFS Namespaces (DFSN) feature. DFSN can be used in conjunction with multiple CacheDrives at a single site to provide high reliability.
DFS targets will appear as folders in the DFS root. Please see the DFS Targets section below for an example.
Permissions
Permissions for DFS targets are controlled by permissions for the shares themselves. For example, if your DFS root share has the Accounting share as a target, access to the Accounting share through DFS is controlled by the permissions on the Accounting share. To change these permissions, go to the File System page, click on the Accounting share, then go to the Permissions tab.
Note: DFS shares will be available over SMB on all gateways in the account. If a gateway does not have permission to access a target share, it will not appear as a folder in the root of the DFS share in that device.
DFS Targets
Use the DFS Targets tab to add or remove DFS root target shares.
A screenshot of the root of the share dfsroot0 appears below. Notice that:
- The paths listed above designate the target shares and optional subfolder in those shares.
- The targets appear as folders with the names listed in the Name column.
The following table shows the results when navigating in the dfsroot0 share:

Adding a New DFS Target
To add new DFS targets, click Create DFS Targets.
- Path in DFS Root / Name - The name of the target. This will be used as the folder name at the root of the DFS root share.
- Target Share - The target share. When the user double-clicks on the folder name specified in the Path in DFS Root / Name field, they will be taken to the target share.
- Subfolder in Share (Optional) - Use this option to specify a folder in the Target Share to use as the target. If this is not set, the root of the share will be used.
Use the Import DFS Targets option to import a CSV list of new DFS targets. The column headers of the CSV file must be:
"PathInDfsRoot", "TargetShare", "SubfolderInShare"
Click Add New Targets to increase the number of available rows in the table.
Removing a DFS Target
To remove a DFS target, click on the X on the right side of the target's row.
