Manage versions by share or folder allows you to restore a share or folder to a state from a previous point in time.

To manage versions by share or folder, select a share or folder and click "Manage Versions".

Recover share versions

The following options are available:

  • Create a new share - If this option is enabled, enter a Share Name and set Gateway Permissions if needed. If this option is disabled, you must select a share.
  • Share Name - If "Create a new share" is enabled, a new share will be created using this name.  The contents of the original share at the specified point in time will be restored into this share.
  • Select Share - If "Create a new share" is disabled, the contents of the original share at the specified point in time will be restored into this share.
  • Select Gateway - Select which gateway (CacheDrive) to use to process the restore.
  • Only Recover the Last Version - If this option is enabled, only the latest version of each file that existed at the specified point in time will be restored.

Note: If this option is disabled, all versions of the files that existed at the specified point in time will be restored.  Depending on the versioning settings for the pool, this could restore a virtually unlimited number of file versions.  This can consume a large amount of gateway and cloud storage and may take a very long time to process.

  • Timezone - The timezone of the specified time and date.
  • Select Date and Select Time - Use these settings to specify the point in time of the desired restore state.  For example, if you would like to restore the share or folder to its previous state at January 1, 2020 at 1:00 PM PST, set the time zone to PST (America/Los_Angeles), then select January 1, 2020 in the Select Date field and 1:00 PM in the Select Time field.
  • Gateway Permissions - If "Create a new share" is enabled, use this option to set gateway permissions for the newly created share.  The gateway selected to process the restore will map the new share automatically with RW permission. Other gateways will default to NO - Access permission, but can be set to RO or RW as needed.  Share mapping for RW and RO gateways (that are not performing the restore) happens once the restore finishes successfully.

Click Recover to begin the process.

Note:

If "Create a new share" is enabled and the "Team Portal - Operation" permission of the source share is RW, the newly created share will have its "Team Portal - Operation" permission set to RO. If the source share permission is RO or NO, the newly created share permission will be the same as source share.

If "Create a new share" is disabled, the "Team Portal - Operation" permission of the target share will not be changed.

Recover folder versions

The following options are available:

  • Select Share - Select the target share for the restore.
  • Subfolder In Share - Enter the target subfolder for the restore.  The files will be restored into a new folder in the path with the original folder name and an appended timestamp. If the path does not exist, it will be created.  The path must be in one of the following formats: "/folder1/folder2/folder3" or "folder1/folder2/folder3".
  • Select Gateway - Select which gateway (CacheDrive) will be used to process the restore.

Click Recover to begin the process.

Keep newest versions, Replace or Ignore

If you recover share versions to an existing share or recover folder versions to an existing path, you must choose how to handle conflicts.  After clicking Recover, the above dialog box will appear.  If a restored file or folder has the same name as an existing one, the recovery process can resolve the conflict in the following ways:

  • Keep newest versions - If the restored file has the same name as an existing file, replace the existing file if the restored version is newer.  If the restored file is older than the existing file, do not replace the existing file.
  • Replace - If the restored file has the same name as an existing file, always replace the existing file.
  • Ignore - If the restored file has the same name as an existing file, never replace the existing file.

Recover multiple shares and folders versions

You can run more than one share or folder recovery process at a time.  The progress bar is in the upper right corner of the Files page.

  • Each gateway can run a single recovery process at a time.  If a gateway is selected to run multiple recovery processes, they will be run sequentially.
  • If you run multiple recovery processes spread across multiple gateways, the processes can run in parallel.

Recovery progress bar

The progress bar of the first recovery process will be shown at the top.  To see the progress of the other jobs, expand the menu by clicking the small triangle.

  • The progress bars will show the source folder or share path.  To see the recovery status (running or pending), mouseover the progress bar.

Cancel recovery

Click the "X" icon on the progress bar to cancel a running or pending recovery job.  After clicking the "X" icon, the recovery status will show "Wait to cancel" and current progress percentage will not be shown.

  • If the recovery process is running, the cancellation will start immediately.
  • If the recovery process is pending, the process will be cancelled once prior recovery processes on the gateway have completed.

Limitations

  • Individual files can still be recovered during a share or folder recovery.
  • Manage versions is not supported if the share is mapped to SharePoint Sync or ECHO.
  • Share and folder recovery are not supported from Morro Connect.
