Manage Shares

Select the share by clicking on the Share badge to open the Share Detail window.

Note: Changes to the Share may require the device to reset services that may interrupt connections to the device. Devices may take a few seconds before they are accessible again.

From this window, you may edit the share's information. The share information is divided into 4 sections:

  • General
  • Permissions
  • Advanced
  • Analyze

After making any changes, you may click APPLY to save changes without closing the window, or click SAVE to save changes and close the window.


Edit the Name, Comment (optional), and view the Share Type.


Give the share any name you wish. It must conform with the SMB share naming rules.

Comment (optional)

Optionally, you can create or edit a comment for the pool.

Share Type

Sync shares cannot change their Share Type.


Manage permissions for the share. 

Choose which type of permissions to set from the navigation menu on the left:

  • User
  • Gateway (CacheDrive)

User Permissions

Set the permissions for users and groups in Morro Data.

Note: For Active Directory Mode, admins must first import users and groups from Active Directory. For Azure AD mode, admins can first import users and groups from Azure AD to set user and group permissions.

Default  Access

The permissions for all users in the system.

Read/WriteUsers can read and write files to the share. Users must be authenticated to access the share. Admins can specify users/groups to a Read Only exclusion list.
Read OnlyUsers can read files from the share. Users must be authenticated to access the share. Admins can specify users/groups to a Read/Write exclusion list.
No AccessUsers cannot see the share. Admins can specify a Read Only and Read/Write exclusion lists.

Allow Guest Access

If Allow Guest Access is enabled, any user will have access to the Share. The default share created by Morro Data has Allow Guest Access enabled.

Exception List

Use exceptions to set Read/Write or Read-Only access for specific users and groups. By default, both users and groups are listed in this section. You may filter the list by name or by type (User, Group or All).

Choose either "Read/Write" or "Read Only" for the grant permission for that user or group. 

In the example above, the share has no Guest Access, which means users  must enter a user name and password to access the share. 

Default Access is set to "No Access", which means only users in the exclusion lists can access the share. 

Exclusion Lists specifies which users have Read/Write or Read Only access to the share.

Read/Write ListUsers in the groups Sales, Sales - East, Sales - West, Executive, Local Admin can read and write files to the share.
Read Only ListUsers in the group Marketing can only read files from the share.

Edit Gateway Permissions

Set which gateway has access to the share. By enabling restricting gateway permissions, you are creating a location based security for access to the shares in your system. 


The Access column set the access permissions for the share. The valid values are:

  • NO: No Access
  • RW: Read/Write Access (Full control)
  • RO: Read-Only

To disable access to a share in the Team Portal, set the Access to "NO"


Check the box for prefetch to have all files copied to the share downloaded to the gateway immediately. When prefetch is enabled, the user does not need to wait for the file to be downloaded from the cloud before it is available.


The advanced tab manages the settings for the following sections of the share:

  1. Upload
  2. SMB
  3. Security
  4. RTC (add-on)


Upload Window and Bandwidth

Starting in version 4.0, the Upload Window and Bandwidth schedule and settings are now in the Device panel

To specify a share to use the Upload Window and Bandwidth setting, enable the switch in the Share panel.

Upload after other shares

Sets a share to have lower priority for upload. Shares with this enabled will upload after files from shares without this option or shares with Remote Team Collaboration enabled are done uploading.  If RTC is enabled for this share, this option will automatically be disabled.

Sync temporary locks (slower)

Disables syncing locking of files to improve downsync speeds. Enable this to improve downsync speeds from the cloud for initial seeding. Not recommended when syncing between devices.

Sync exclusion in Posix ERE

By default Morro Data excludes certain files from upload. To customize which files are uploaded, enable the feature and add a new Posix ERE text. To create the Posix ERE, use the Sync Exclusion List generator. Click on the ? to open the generator page. For more information, please refer to the article: Sync Exclusion List.


Don't use ea to save streams

Windows support provides applications the ability to create alternate data streams of information. (See ). Mac OS has similar ones which called resource fork. Morro supports those extra information. At default, we treat it as part of metadata for speed. Also if we treat it as metadata, file which is cached out also keep alternate data stream in device. It is typically good, but there is restriction in size.  Windows OS use alternate data stream very limited. However many application runs on Mac OS tend to use resource fork. And it may reach this size limitation.  So when copying file with large alternate data stream to CacheDrive may cause "not enough space" error. This is not for main data stream, but for alternate data stream.  If you want to keep alternate data streams, you can enable this switch.

Force SMB encrypt

Force encryption to be used for SMB access.

Prevent folder rename when used (slower, experimenta)

Prevents users from renaming folders if file in the folder or a sub-folder locked. This results in a folder lock. Please note that this works only within the same CacheDrive to prevent accidental rename.

Disable oplocks

Oplocks essentially means that the client is allowed to download and cache a file on its hard drive while making changes; if a second client wants to access the file, the first client receives a break and must synchronize the file back to the server. This can give significant performance gains in some cases; some programs insist on synchronizing the contents of the entire file back to the server for a single change.

Hide share from browsing

Disables share from being searchable by browsing in Explorer or Finder. Users with access permissions can still access the share. Behaves like hidden shares in Windows.


Use the Folder Security to specify access permissions to sub-folders in a share. Click "Edit folder security" to open the Folder Security panel.

Share Folder Owner

Sets the CREATOR_OWNER value for share.

Share Folder Group

Sets the CREATOR_GROUP value for the share.

Access for this Folder

Use this section to set the add or delete users/groups from the ACL permissions list and specify the access permission for users or groups for the share.

The following actions can be performed for the share folder:

ADDAdd a users or group to the ACL permissions list.
DELETERemove a user or group from the ACL permissions list. Check a user from the list of users and groups in this section and click DELETE.
REVERTSet all the values back to the way they were set before making any changes.
READ WRITEGrants users Read/Write access. Works as full modify privileges.
READ ONLYGrants users Read only access. Users cannot write to the folder or overwrite the files.
NO ACCESSPrevents all access to the files and folders.

To add more users or groups to the Access Control Lists, click ADD. The window to add more users and groups will open.

To add additional users and groups to the Access Controls Lists:

1. Select the users and groups from the "User or Group name" panel.

Use the + next to the item to choose the users or groups from the list of users and groups in the system. The selected users and groups will be moved to the section "User/Group to be added to Permissions"

Search for a specific user or group in the field "User or Group name".

2. Set the Permissions for the users and groups that were added.

Set the Access settings for the Users and Groups from the dropdown list. The valid values are:

  • NO: No Access
  • RW: Read/Write Access (Full control)
  • RO: Read-Only

3. Select from "Add user access permissions for this folder" or "Add user access permission for new folder/file" to choose to which set of permissions the users and groups will be added.

Click ADD to complete the process.


Remote Team Collaboration for Design

Requires an Activation Key or the service plan CloudNAS Collaboration

Allows users to collaborate on Revit and other design application project files using CacheDrives. The share manages remote file syncing and locking required to support project collaboration. For more information on using Revit in Morro Data, please refer to the article How do we use Revit with Morro Data CloudNAS?


  1. Do not enable if "Upload after other shares" is enabled.
  2. Behaves differently than normal shares as it is optimized for collaborating with Revit and other design applications.

Remote Team Collaboration for Office

Requires an Activation Key or the service plan CloudNAS Collaboration

Allows users to collaborate on Office files, like Word documents and Excel spreadsheets using CacheDrives.  The share manages remote file syncing and locking required to support collaboration.

Note that this does not allow for multiple concurrent editors with change merging.  Only one user may edit a file at a time.

DELETE a Share

Click DELETE to permanently delete a share. A pop-up window will appear with a warning message about deleting shares. You will need to type the name of the share into the pop-up window to confirm deletion of the share.


Without typing the Share name properly, the DELETE button in this window is greyed out and not functional.

Note: Proceed with caution. If you delete a share, all files in the share will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

A gateway must be on-line in order to delete a share. If no gateways are online, the DELETE button will be disabled.

Note: When deleting a share with a large amount of data, it will take time for the system to complete the process. During that time, you may still see the data is available.
